Calorie Maintenance Level – Finding Out Your Caloric Needs

In order to maintain a certain weight, you must consume a certain level of calories. Here’s a step by step guide on how to figure out your calorie maintenance level. By sticking to this caloric intake, you won’t gain or lose any more weight.

Step 1

First, go ahead and weight yourself. Then, measure your exact height. Jot these down for now.

Step 2

Go ahead and multiply your height (in inches) by the following figures:
Females: 4.7
Males: 12.9
Jot down the result. Keep this handy. We’ll call this figure “A”

Step 3

Next, go ahead and calculate your weight (in pounds) by the following figures:
Females: 4.3
Males: 6.3
Jot down the result. Again, keep this figure handy. Later, we’ll refer to this figure as “B”

Step 4

Now, take your age and multiply it by the following figures:
Females: 4.7
Males: 6.8
Jot this down –we will call it figure “C”

Step 5

Next, you can go ahead and do the following calculation. Add up A + B, then minus C. Add the following to this figure:
Females: Add 66
Males: Add 65
The actual sum of this final figure is your calorie maintenance level.

Other factors to consider

You will also have to consider your overall lifestyle. You can adjust your calorie maintenance level for the following scenarios.

  • Sedentary, lightly active, or very active lifestyles. You’ll need to adjust your meals accordingly in order to adjust for your activeness, or lack of activity.
  • To lose weight, you need to cut out 500 calories a day to begin seeing safe, sensible results. Of course, if you want to gain weight, simply add 500 more calories a day to begin gaining 1 pound a week.
